When Do You Actually Need to Register for Corporate Tax?
Every taxable person in the UAE must register for Corporate Tax — mainland companies, free zone companies, and individuals whose UAE business turnover exceeds AED 1,000,000 in a calendar year — regardless of whether any tax is actually owed.
This is the single most expensive assumption we see. Registration is mandatory regardless of profit, activity, or whether your income falls under the AED 375,000 zero-rate threshold. Dormant companies still register and file nil returns. Free zone companies expecting the 0% QFZP rate still register.
A fixed AED 10,000 penalty applies for late registration. If you're only realising now that you should have registered already, don't wait for it to surface during an audit — see our post on the current penalty waiver, which may still apply depending on your first tax period.
